Never turn your back in a bar fight. I had just landed what I thought was a pretty good punch, when another pair arms wrapped around me from behind and I thrown through the window.

No, no, that's not how it happened. Alpha team was rappelling from the attack chopper when a gust of wind tangled me in the ropes. Evac required.

No, not that either. The real story of how I dislocated my shoulder is terribly dull. Slipped. Fell. Pop went the shoulder. A quick-ish trip to the ER for them to put all the bones back in their proper locations and now I'm in a sling for the better part of a month.

On a good day, I type with two fingers. Hunting and pecking with only one arm has further cramped my style--and that's the reason I'm telling you all this. Writing has slowed for the moment while I recuperate. Tomorrow I leave on vacation for a few days, but when I return I'm hoping we'll be back to normal. I have several restaurant reviews and a handful of recipes backlogged already. Meanwhile, I'll leave you with a moonrise over Waikiki. A hui hou.

Hi Alan - Take care....those things are painful!

Kat, Reid and Kirk - the shoulder is nearly as good as new now. Turns out that fresh air, camping and a light swimming in the surf were exactly what I needed for body, mind and soul!
