Whole Foods Coming to Kahala

Whole Foods
Today's Star-Bulletin has the lowdown, "Kahala Mall Bags Gourmet Grocer." Because they're moving into the existing space occupied by Star Market, this location is scheduled to open earlier than their Ward Center site. Oahu is always in need of increased organic groceries--a focus of Whole Foods--and Kahala is a neighborhood with enough income to frequent the store.

Oddly enough, my Hawaiian language teacher mentioned nearly three years ago that Kahala was courting Whole Foods (and Trader Joe's). When Star Market closed without any announcement of a new tenant, I assumed all those discussions had fallen through. Turns out she was right, yet again.

I wish both Whole Foods & Trader Joe's would come to Hawaii! Although, if Trader Joe's does start a store in Hawaii it would take out all the fun of bringing back gifts from the mainland from their stores...

I'm glad I'm not the only one who makes a run to Trader Joe's right before getting back on the plane home.
