The newest contributor to maʻona is... Mr. Moʻo. No wisecracks about how his writing would be an improvement!

I was working on the lānai when he crawled across my keyboard, turned and parked on the warm spot above the hard drive. Beautiful, isn't he?

Hey Alan - Must be a sign of good luck! I miss those little guys....looks like he lost his tail recently, huh?

Kat- I saw him coming at a distance, so that helped. If I suddenly found him under my fingers without warning, I too would jump.

Kirk- I've seen him a couple times since and he's definitely missing the tip of his tail. That doesn't reduce the amount of luck, does it? Even if it does, he's still handy for reducing the bug population.

Actually, I was just at the Hilo airport and that gecko is known as a daytime gecko and is considered an invasive species. The picture they have is almost exactly like yours, minus the computer.

Aww, how sweet! I love geckos and the like...they eat nasty roaches. Come check out my latest post on Chef Mavro's new spring menu.

alan said:

Andrew- I wasn't aware it was invasive. Is it causing problems as a result? Should it be open season on my little green friend?

Anuhea- A few months ago I witnessed a brown gecko attack and kill a cockroach half his size. It was awesome. Your Mavro post was inspirational.

I didn't know it was invasive either. I did some brief internet research (very non-scientific) and I can't find any information about invasive geckos.

Next time I go through the Hilo airport, I'll check again.

Oops, a simple check of Wikipedia shows the following.

Wikipedia is amazing. It says one of the things they like is, "to lick soft, sweet fruit, pollen, and nectar." I could imagine how that might be a problem in Hawaii.
