Hi Alan,

I don't recall seeing this shop on my visit earlier in the year. Do you know if it's new...or maybe I just wasn't paying attention! *sigh*

Reid, I don't have a sense for how long it's been there, but maybe you just missed it somehow? It was a permanent stall within the Ferry Plaza, on the inland, bay bridge side of the main hallway. The front of the shop contained about three times as many fresh mushrooms as seen in my photo. Deeper in were jars of mushroom spreads, truffle oils and dried mushrooms. Most of what I saw was 100% new to me...

alan, if you come across an abalone mushroom, you've gotta try one. i ate one at the 'restaurant' and loved it. so sweet and juicy... perfect when sauteed.

No sign of abalone mushrooms. If they had them on hand, they were cleared out before I got there. I've noticed that good mushrooms taste best with the simplest preparations, like a sautee.

I am pretty sure it was there when Reid visited, but I dont think it was there right from the start.
Its the absolute opposite end and side from the Slanted Door where I recall Reid was hanging.

Buon Anno and Buon Natale to you and your family. The mushrooms look great, I can't tell you how great porcini tastes with pasta. Yum. Lately I have tried a lobster mushroom that was not so tasty but have yet to to find an abalone mushroom. I will keep my eyes peeled.

There ya go Reid, Sam had a little more info for us. Now you'll just have to take a trip back to see the mushrooms!

Gia, porcini are great, eh? Mele Kalikimaka and Hauoli Makahiki Hou to you too!
